When the clock strikes midnight on St. Thomas, most of the island is asleep. A few hours later, the riot begins.
Midnight Riot is the 2027 edition of Soka Elements, a fully immersive J'ouvert experience built on paint, powder, water and pure soca energy. It runs on April 29, 2027 from 1:00 AM - 7:00 AM at Muse, 3077 Kronprindsens Gade, in Charlotte Amalie. Six hours, doors to sunrise, with no let up.
If you have never been, this guide covers what the night is, where it came from and how to get in.
Where Soka Elements came from
Soka Elements was created by Muse Nation. The idea was simple. J'ouvert on St. Thomas starts at sunrise, and too many people were spending the dark hours before it sitting around waiting. That is not J'ouvert.
So the first Soka Elements filled those hours. It landed on the Charlotte Amalie waterfront in 2024 and drew hundreds of people into a neon playground of paint, powder, water and soca. In 2025 it came back bigger with a castaway theme, live performers and a sunrise breakfast. In 2026 it sold out and was called one of the defining events of the carnival season on St. Thomas.
Midnight Riot is the next chapter, with a new home at Muse and a new theme: Midnight Riot: Born to Fete.
The five elements of the riot
The night is built around five elements. Each one shows up in the production, the decor and the crowd.
- Powder. Color clouds and total immersion. Expect to leave a different color than you arrived.
- Paint. Wet, thrown and worn until sunrise.
- Water. Cooling the floor at 4am when the heat peaks.
- Soca. Six hours of it, from high-energy DJ sets to live performances.
- Power. The crowd is the production. Nobody stands at the back.
This is not a party. This is a takeover.
What the night feels like
Midnight Riot is staged inside a dystopian, high-energy world. Think hard light, smoke, chrome and color, with paint and powder moments timed through the night. The music is soca first, with the bouyon and Caribbean party sounds that keep a fete moving. DJ Avalanche leads the music.
It is loud, it is messy and it is meant to be. You will get painted by strangers. You will sing songs you did not know you knew. And when the sun comes up over Charlotte Amalie, you will understand why people fly in for this.

How tickets work
Tickets are sold directly by Soka Elements on the tickets page. There are no outside ticket sites, and tickets bought anywhere else are not valid for entry.
Right now you reserve online and pay with cash or card at a pickup location or at the door on event night. Once you pay, every person gets their own QR ticket by email, and each QR code is scanned once at the door. Tickets are released in tiers, so the price goes up as each tier sells out or closes. We break it all down in how Midnight Riot tickets work.
Who it is for
Midnight Riot is for people who want the full J'ouvert experience and not a watered down version of it. Locals who have been on the road for years. First-timers who have only seen it on Instagram. Visitors who planned a whole trip around carnival week.
If you are new to fetes, start with our first-timer's guide to a soca fete in St. Thomas. It covers the vocabulary, the rhythm of the night and how to pace yourself.
How to prepare
A few things make the night better:
- Dress to be destroyed. Wear something you are willing to ruin. Black or white holds pigment best. Read what to wear to a paint and powder fete.
- Pack light. Your phone, your ID and your payment method, sealed against water and paint. See the fete survival kit.
- Plan your ride home before doors. Taxis run late on St. Thomas, but 7am is not the time to start figuring it out. Our getting there guide has the details.
- Visiting from off island? Sort your flights and where to stay early. Carnival week fills up.
The bottom line
Midnight Riot is six hours of paint, powder, water and soca in the heart of Charlotte Amalie, built for people who were born to fete. Tiers move fast and the last edition sold out, so do not wait for the final week.
